February 15

The Braxton Planners will sponsor a Neighborhood Watch Meeting on February 15 at Braxton Community Center at 6 p.m.   Bring your favorite dish and visit with your neighbors as Chris Busby explains and demonstrates the new CPR procedures. The Mendenhall Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for the next Mendenhall Miss Hospitality. The goal of the state and local Miss Hospitality is to promote tourism and economic development at the local and state level. Miss Hospitality represents the spirit of the “Hospitality State” with everyone she meets. Anyone between the ages of 18 and 24 is eligible to enter. The deadline to enter is February 16. February 16-17

Kennedy Springs Baptist Church "Mission Center"--- --Huge Sale.  February 16 and 17 (8 am-12 noon) . Most  clothes are *50¢ including  blue jeans. Hundreds of sweats, coats, jackets and sweaters sell for *50¢ and up and  lots of scrubs are only * $1.   They receive new clothing donations from CATO and Dollar General as well as jewelry from Ballyhoo often! Hundreds of books are available for 10¢.  It has been  open to the public every other weekend for over 10 years selling  toys, dishes, linens, knickknacks and much more at unbelievable prices!  NEW date changes - they will now be open the 1st and 3rd Friday and Saturday each month.   Follow the pink signs from Polks Pharmacy only 9 miles from downtown Magee and only 10 miles out Highway #540E from  Highway 49 to 2034 Highway 540. February 17

Angel Wings Outreach Center presents Know Your Worth, A “Woke-Shop” For Awareness about Teen Dating Violence/Human Trafficking on Feb. 17 from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Magee Community Center, 115 First Ave., NW, Magee. For more information call 601-847-5802.

February 18

The Simpson County NAACP Black History Program will be held on Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. at Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church, 169 Pilgrim Rest Road. Everyone is invited to attend.


The Mary Grove Church Anniversary will be celebrated on Feb. 18 at 1:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Pastor Lowry Griffin. Everyone is welcome.


February 19

The Board of Supervisors and Simpson County Solid Waste Offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 19, in Observance of President’s Day. Trash pickup will run as follows: Regular garbage pickup Monday, Feb. 19, will be picked up on Tuesday, Feb. 20, and will run through Thursday afternoon. Please have trash in bags and out by 6 a.m.


The USDA Service Center, which houses the Simpson County Farm Service Agency (FSA) and the Simpson County Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) offices, located at 3080 Simpson Hwy 13, Mendenhall will be closed Monday, Feb. 19, for Presidents’ Day. The Service Center will reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 8 a.m.


February 24

A Pastoral Anniversary Banquet honoring Pastor E. Darnell Moffett will be held at Calvary M.B. Church, Magee, on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m. at Co-Lin’s Simpson County Center. The guest speaker will be Rev. Dr. Vernon Graves of Calvary Baptist Church, Laurel. Tickets are $10.


February 25

Annual Usher’s Day will be held at Pleasant Grove CME Church, 577 Highway 541 South, Magee, on Sunday, Feb. 25, during the 11 a.m. church service. Pastor is Rev. Robert Hill.


A celebration of the 14 years of pastoral ministry of Pastor Kimble Windham and First Lady Minister Lisa Windham will be held at Hills Chapel M.B. Church, 1860 SCR 105, Louin. Pastoral Anniversary will be on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. with guest speaker Rev. Steve Edwards, pastor of Word of Faith, Montrose, along with his church family and at 2:30 p.m. with guest speaker Rev. Gary Moore, pastor of Greater Corinth M.B. Newton, along with his church family.


The Greater Dry Ridge Male Choir 19th Year Anniversary will be held at Greater Dry Ridge M.B. Church, Hwy 13 South, Mendenhall, on Feb. 25 at 1:30 p.m. The theme is Luke 2:13-14.  Everyone is invited to attend.

March 1

The Republican Women of Simpson County will meet Thursday, March 1, at 11 a.m. in the E-911 Building in Mendenhall. Guests are welcome. For information call 601-953-2433.


March 2

Mendenhall’s Friday Nights on Main Kick-Off Party will be held on March 2 on Main Street beginning at 6 p.m. There will be antique cars and trucks, hot rods, race vehicles, motorcycles and plenty of food, drinks and entertainment for the whole family. Vendors are welcome. 55 South will be jamming on the Main Stage or enjoy some karaoke music by Party Tyme DJ Services on the south stage. Sponsored by Cooksey Builders Inc. Friday Nights on Main will be held the first Friday of every month.


March 3

A Wild Game Supper will be held at Maranatha Baptist Church located on Highway 35 between Mize and Mt. Olive, on Saturday, March 3, at 6 p.m. Fish, chicken, and  wild game will be served. There will be door prizes. The guest speaker will be Sam Caston. For more information call 601-733-9173.


A Pre-Appreciation Musical Program will be hosted by Higher Level Worship Center in honor of Pastor Rev. Dwight and First Lady Pearl Robinson on Saturday, March 3. This event will take place at Higher Level Worship Center beginning at 5 p.m. Everyone is invited. 


March 4

The first year anniversary of St. Mary Church’s Pastor Anthony Watts will be held on Sunday, March 4, at 1:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Dr. Bernard Mitchell of Zion Hill M.B. Church, Mendenhall. Everyone is invited to attend.


The 15th Year Pastoral Anniversary Appreciation Service honoring Pastor E. Darnell and Dr. Allison Moffett on Sunday, March 4, at 2 p.m. The guest preacher will be Rev. O.D. Evans of New Hopewell Baptist Church, Collins.


The sixth year anniversary program for Oak Ridge M.B. Church’s pastor, Rev. Dr. Eric Dixson, Sr., will be held on March 4 at 1:30 p.m. Theme: “A servant called to spiritual services, Matthew 28:19-20. The guest speaker will be Rev. Moses Johnson, pastor of the North Hill M.B. Church in New Hebron. Dress colors are black, purple and white.


March 5-7

"Calling All Youth" a three night Spring Youth Revival, will be held at New Zion M.B Church, Pinola, on March 5-7. Theme: "In the Days of Your Youth" Scripture: Ecclesiastes 12:1. Guest speaker Rev. Mark Johnson Sr., Fair Hill M.B. Church, Pelehatchie. Service will begin each night at 7:15.


March 10

Married couples are invited to share in a Married Couples Seminar scheduled at Calvary M.B. Church, Magee, on Saturday, March 10, from 9 a.m. until noon. The facilitator will be Dr. Stephen F. Mason of Greater Pearlie Grove M.B. Church, Jackson.


March 11

Pastor Rev. Dwight Robinson and First Lady Sister Pearl Robinson of Higher Level Worship Center, Jackson, will be honored for six years of service on Sunday, March 11, at 1:30 p.m. The speaker will be Rev. James Roby, pastor of St. John M.B. Church, Utica. Everyone is invited.



A Bible study on the book of Revelations is being offered every Sunday night at 6 p.m. led by Pastor Bro. Donald Green at Fellowship Baptist Church, Hwy. 13 South, Mendenhall.


Morning prayer and afternoon luncheon is held every Thursday at Mt. Moriah Church. Prayer time is 11 a.m. until noon. Lunch and fellowship time is 12:15-1:15 p.m. Prayer and lunch is open to all people to get spiritually fed and natural food for the soul. Senior citizens, the needy and the homeless, come and bring a friend. Mt. Moriah Church is located at 160 Mt. Moriah Church Road, Magee.


The Books-n-Lunch Club meets at the Magee Library at 12:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month to discuss a book chosen for adult readers. New participants are welcome. The Simpson County Federation of Democratic Women meets at the E911 Building in Mendenhall the third Saturday of each month from 10-11 a.m.

American Legion Post 74 meets the third Tuesday of each month at the VFW, Hwy 49, Magee, at 6:30 p.m. Veterans and active duty service personnel welcome.


Lunch and Prayer is held every Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. at BridgePointe Church, 123 Choctaw Street E., Magee. Hosted by Genesis (a BridgePointe Ministry.)

songs and crafts.


Area high schools have chosen their top graduates for special honors at graduation ceremonies across the county this month.  They will be recognized and speak to audiences at those ceremonies.
